Great Barrier Reef Liveaboard Cruises

Milestone Celebrations - 12th December 2009

The 12th of December 2009 marked an anniversary for Cairns based live-aboard cruise operator, Spirit of Freedom. It was on that date in 2002 that Spirit of Freedom commenced scheduled dive trips to the Cod Hole, Ribbon Reefs and Osprey Reef, Coral Sea. The company has since enjoyed 7 years of operation, taking more than 10,000 divers on their 3 to 7 day tours, gaining a reputation for excellence in service and dive operations along the way.

One of Spirit of Freedom's earliest guests was US Dive enthusiast, Stuart Ross. Stuart has logged more than 250 dives just while on board Spirit of Freedom, and celebrated his 21st trip on the 7th anniversary voyage. A well known character to the Spirit of Freedom crew, Stuart divides his time between the US and Australia, and has many a story to share about his diving expeditions to Micronesia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and most of the the world's dream destinations for divers.

Stuart has been to Osprey Reef with Spirit of Freedom 14 times and quotes Osprey Reef and the shark dive as his most favourite dive in the world. Asked why he comes back to Spirit of Freedom, Stuart's enthusiastic reply is " I love SOF! It's a beauty of a monohull that performs great in the water. The crew are so professional, the food is gourmet, and most importantly, their safety record is impeccable. To me, that is the most important thing when diving."
