Spirit of Freedom - TRIP Gallery

Mon 13th December 2010 - Thu 16th December 2010

We started the trip with two wonderful dives at Jorgie's Patch. Considering we had a small group, we added some excitement to our check out dives by doing tender drops up the wall and swimming back to the shallower reef. It was a fantastic way to start the trip!

We then steamed up the Ribbon Reefs and found ourselves at the Cod Hole bright and early the following morning. Cod Hole lived up to its fame and offered our guests a great dive. The following dive, we did our Cod feed. With Mike Ball's boat just next door we had plenty of divers to join in on the fun. During the feed a dinosaur-like Loggerhead turtle swam right through the centre of the circle of divers. He left us to finish the feed and then came back for another photo opportunity. We departed the Cod Hole and went for a dive at Two Towers. A beautiful White Tip Reef shark spent the entire dive following the divers around like a puppy. We swam through a small school of gigantic Barracuda that were just hanging out in the current waiting for their opportunity to hunt. Pixie Pinnacle was our final destination of the day, where we did an afternoon dive, and a night dive. It is very rare that we go to Pixie Pinnacle for a night dive, which made it particularly exciting. A very eerie night dive, with massive moray eels swimming about and big shadows cruising around in the distance!

On Wednesday, we started our dives at Challenger Bay. Because of the thousands upon thousands of fish and two devil rays, the passengers voted Challenger their favourite dive site of the trip. We spent the rest of the afternoon with two dives at Snake Pit. There was an absolutely enormous Green turtle that hung around for both dives, and did a nice job posing for photos! I think the best words to describe him were said by a very enthusiastic diver on her way up the ladder, "That's not a turtle, that's a donkey!" Upon finishing our lovely afternoon playing with our turtle friend, we moved on to Lizard for another one of Andrew's fantastic BBQs.

We may have had small number of divers, but I must say they are some of the keenest I have seen! Always ready and excited to jump in the water ten minutes early, and came up smiling every time. Thanks for a great trip!
