Spirit of Freedom - TRIP Gallery

Thu 2nd December 2010 - Mon 6th December 2010

Let's just start by saying the weather just doesn't get any better than this trip! We had beautiful sunny days with practically no wind. We had a fantastic group of people from all over the world, mixed in with a great group of divers from America. We spent our three first dives at Osprey at the crew's favourite site, North Horn. The weather and currents were so cooperative we were able to dive both walls in the morning, followed by a shark feed after lunch. The dives were highlighted with our usual suspects, plenty of grey reefies and dogtooth tuna. The massive school of Barracuda that tends to hang out in the blue, came right up to the divers for a bit of a look. Coming up from the shark feed the wind had dropped from very little to absolutely none. We enjoyed a fantastic glass off for the rest of the afternoon.

The following day we were fortunate enough to do an exploratory dive at Shark Reef. We investigated Dogtooth Ridge, quite an appropriate name due to the curious Dogtooth tuna that came in to check us out. In addition to Doggies, we also spotted quite a few grey whalers and even a couple of Silver tips. We had a magical moment when a school of hundreds of Rainbow Runners encircled the divers. After our gorgeous dive at Shark Reef we moved on to a site we rarely get to dive, Rapid Horn. Rapid Horn, located at the very southern tip of Osprey Reef, was great fun. Doing live drops added a sense of adventure to the usual dive plan. That afternoon we moved on to False Entrance, followed by Secret Caves. Both were very popular dives, with great visibility and tons of fish.

On Sunday we woke up to find ourselves back in the Ribbons, at the world famous Steve's Bommie. Steve's Bommie had just enough current to bring in plenty of fish, but not enough that we had to work too hard! The fish ranged from millions of tiny fairy damsels to predators like Big-Eye Trevally, Barracuda, Giant Trevally and Spanish mackerel. The predators made the dive particularly entertaining as they harassed all of the smaller fish! We spent the afternoon at two lovely, shallow sites, Flare Point and Joanie's Joy. Both are fantastic sites with beautiful clear water to finish up the trip. At night, Matty made us another amazing BBQ, and we celebrated the end of a great trip with our fun loving guests!
